The RedTeam and the DARPA Grand Challenge

Abstract

This talk will discuss the technology and teamwork that enabled the RedTeam to develop the most competitive entry in the DARPA grand challenge.  The talk will highlight several of the accomplishments and also explain the limitations of the existing robot and planning systems.  The talk will close with plans for the future and how the team will progress between now and the next grand challenge event in 2005.

 

 

Speaker Biography

Chris Urmson is a graduate student at the Robotics Institute and was the technical lead for the development of the RedTeam robot Sandstorm.  Prior to his involvement with the RedTeam he was a part of the team that developed and field tested the Hyperion rover in both the Arctic Circle and the Atacama desert.  Chris earned his B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from the University of Manitoba in 1998.
