Applet in Browsing Mode

When WebMate is in browsing mode, at the end of each page you see on the internet, you will see an applet that provides you with a list of tools for working with the current page. You will also see the url letting you know your current internet address, and what time it is. The image below shows you what the way WebMate interfaces with your browser, and how you can call WebMate up while browsing the internet.

I_Like_It: by clicking here, you indicate to WebMate that you like a particular web page, which will help the system establish and flush out your profile. The more times you use this feature, the more accurate the system becomes when it makes recommendations to you (by using search engines or spidering the resources you have specified).
Controller: if you click here, you will get a menu with a list of all the WebMate commands, which pops up in the form of the toolbar seen below.
- Alias
  
  You can give a short name (alias) to the current URL you are browsing. There are two ways you can use the alias: one is to click the "List" button, which will display all the aliases stored in the system, and allow you to click on the one you wish to visit. Another way to use the alias (once you have assigned one to a website) is to enter it in the "Location" input field of the web browser--this will take you to the site itself. Some words such as "help," "new," "result" and "like," are reserved to execute specific functions, so don't use them as aliases.

- Check
  
  This function will check the syntax of the source code of an HTML page. It will give you the tree structure of the HTML page, and also tell you if and where errors might be occurring. However, please note that WebMate is not a strict syntax checker.
  "Check" also monitors the availability of the links in a HTML pages. This provides you with a way to maintain your web pages, since WebMate will find and delete the dead links in your written pages according to the Check results.

- Dictionary
  
  This will lookup the online dictionaries. If any errors occur, please click the "Try" button.

- Download
  
  "Download" will save pages for offline browsing purposes. You can set the downloading level or depth (from 1 to 10), waiting time for a session (timeout), all the links in the different sites (or only the links belonging to the same site), and you can also specify the types of content you are interested in downloading. You should remember to indicate the directory where Webmate should keep the downloaded pages.

- More
  
  When you find an interesting page, and you want to find other pages like it, just click the "More like this" button and Webmate will find and list other sites that reflect your interests. WebMate applies Advanced Natural Language Processing technology to extract the keywords from the current page, and uses them to find other pages similar in makeup.

- Profile
  
  The system creates your user profile through your feedback. This enables it to recommend what you would like to view by sending "high weight" words to the search engines. You can also look up your profile to see how it is composed of words and their "weights."

- Reference
  
  When a web page is printed out, the information about the links is lost. However, with "Reference," you can print out a web page as if it were a Word Document, including the URL references at the end.
  
  For every link in the page, there is a small number indicating the reference.
  
  You can find the references at the end of the page according to the reference number.
