I am excited to join the School of Information Studies (iSchool) at Syracuse University as an assistant professor in Aug. 2012. My SU homepage is here.
I was a research scientist at CyLab in Carnegie Mellon University. I am primarily working with Dr. Lorrie Cranor and the CyLab Usable Privacy and Security Laboratory (CUPS Lab) that she directs. We are collaborating with researchers from Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs on privacy-enhancing technologies. I am also working on the Privacy Nudge Project led by Dr. Alessandro Acquisti, Dr. Lorrie Cranor, and Dr. Norman Sadeh.
I am interested in studying and designing for social use of technologies, informing public policies on technologies, and changing human behavior for their personal and public welfare, with a particular emphasis on privacy and security, social computing, and China.
I received my Ph.D. from the Department of Informatics, Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences at University of California, Irvine. I had an amazing dissertation committee: Dr. Alfred Kobsa (advisor), Dr. André van der Hoek, and Dr. Gene Tsudik.
While at UCI, I was affiliated with Institute of Software Research (ISR), Secure Computing & Networking Center (SCONCE) and
Center for Research on Information Technology and Organizations (CRITO). My old UCI homepage is here.
I had the opportunities to work at Intel Research with Dr. Scott Mainwaring, at Fuji Xerox Palo Alto Lab (FXPAL) with Dr. Daniel Billsus and Dr. David Hilbert, and at CommerceNet with Dr. Rohit Khare. I was a visiting researcher at Institute of Information Systems, Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany for 3 months in 2006 (during the FIFA World Cup :). I am a passionate soccer player and fan.
