Pictures of Pakistan

Wazir Khan Mosque
Tucked away in the middle of the congested walled city of Lahore (Pakistan), this mosque was built around 1634-1635 AD by a court physician of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. It is said that during sleepless nights Rudyard Kipling would meet with the imam of the mosque and spend time at the top of one of the minarets waiting for inspiration.

Rawal Lake
Rawal Lake is situated just outside the city limits of Islamabad (Pakistan). One of the few watersport locations near the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. These pictures were taken on a short boat trip.

Rohtas Fort
Built by Sher Shah Suri around 1540 AD to consolidate his rapidly expanding empire, the Rohtas fort sits on the old Grand Trunk Road. With most of the original 12 gates still standing, it is considered to be among the best preserved central asian forts.

The city of Rohtas still exists within the crumbled walls and the people are quite friendly. There are a number of interesting buildings like the Shahi mosque, an underground well and an old Hindu temple within the city too.

Lahore
Lahore is the cultural and political capital of Pakistan. This is a collection of photos from a variety of landmarks including the Shalimar Gardens, Badshahi Mosque, Lahore Fort, Lahore Museum and Kim's Gun. I spent the summer of 2007 at the LUMS.

GIK Institute
GIKI is nestled in the foothills of Himalayas next to a village called Topi. Tarbela Dam, the largest earth filled dam in the world, is also right next to the institute. Spent four years here. Don't remember what I was studying here.
