Byron SpiceFriday, October 2, 2009

The role of data-intensive computing in scientific discovery will be the focus of this year's eScience Workshop 2009, which will be co-hosted by Microsoft Research and the School of Computer Science Oct. 15-17 in the Gates and Hillman Centers.

The cross-disciplinary event, "Facilitating Scientific Discovery through Data-Intensive Computing," will explore how scientists can take advantage of "big data" and create computing technologies that enable scalable solutions that address a broad range of scientific challenges. It will include presentations by Tony Hey, corporate vice president of the External Research Division of Microsoft Research, SCS Dean Randal E. Bryant and 57 other speakers from Carnegie Mellon and approximately 30 research universities from around the world.

Registration is open through Wednesday, October 7. See the workshop Web site.
