Entries for this year's Smiley Award for innovation in technology-assisted person-to-person communication are due Feb. 28. The competition is open to graduate or undergraduate students, either individuals or teams, from any part of Carnegie Mellon. The winning entry will receive a $500 cash prize from the award's corporate sponsor, Yahoo! Inc.
In the tradition of Prof. Scott Fahlman's original :-) invention, the contest judges value small, clever innovations as much as big ones. To enter, send a 1-3 page nomination letter for the project via email by Feb. 28 to smiley-award@cs.cmu.edu. More details are available on the Smiley Award web site http://www.cs.cmu.edu/smiley/sa.html.
