A team of four Carnegie Mellon undergraduates spent 24 hours transforming an idea for a simulation game into reality at Facebook's Global Hackathon Finals, which began Nov. 30 in Menlo Park, Calif. The team finished fourth among 18 teams from 17 universities and four countries.

The game the students created, "The Hackers," simulates the challenges and excitement of participating in a hackathon— competitions in which teams build or modify software to create something useful or cool. The game can be played here.

The team members, all juniors, are Dillon Grove, a human-computer interaction and information systems major; Sara Ladley, a history major; Scott Martin, an electrical and computer engineering and computer science major, and Todd Medema, a business administration major. They qualified for the finals by competing at a regional Facebook hackathon hosted by the School of Computer Science Nov. 2-3.
