Language Technologies Institute Professor Eric Nyberg has joined forces with Deloitte University Press on the launch of its new massive open online course (MOOC) "Cognitive Technologies: The Real Opportunities for Business." Nyberg serves as a knowledge expert and contributor for the course, which examines artificial intelligence and its impact on businesses across industries.
"AI aims to make machines perform tasks that only humans used to be able to do, and it is no longer just science fiction," said course instructor David Schatsky, senior manager at Deloitte LLP. "These technologies are prevalent today and can impact nearly every sector. Our goal is to help prepare executives to make informed decisions about various AI technologies such as machine learning, automation and robotics, and their impact on organizations."
After completing this course, learners will be able to identify some of the most important cognitive technologies, recognize what they do and broadly understand how they work. The course aims to prepare learners to gauge suitable applications for each technology as well as ways to implement specific technologies and assess how they impact workers and the design of work.
In addition to Nyberg, who directs Carnegie Mellon's Master of Computational Data Science program, the course features Tom Davenport, President's Distinguished Professor of Information Technology and Management at Babson College and a fellow in MIT's Center for Digital Business.
