SCS faculty members Andrea Bajcsy, Fernando De La Torre and Maarten Sap have received Amazon Research Awards to advance reliability, safety and performance in emerging AI systems.

Amazon has named three Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science researchers among the 63 recipients of its latest Amazon Research Awards, recognizing projects that advance reliability, safety and performance in emerging AI systems.

Faculty members receiving awards include:

The awards continue a steady run of Amazon-supported research at Carnegie Mellon. The university recently celebrated two doctoral students named Amazon Ph.D. fellows for 2025, reflecting cross-disciplinary progress in responsible AI and machine learning. Amazon and CMU also launched a strategic AI Innovation Hub in October to accelerate research collaborations in areas such as trustworthy AI, robotics and large-scale systems.

This year's recognition highlights CMU's advances in developing AI agents that operate safely and effectively in real-world settings, along with the university's expanding role in shaping next-generation intelligent systems.
