Play-by-Email INWO Game
For eleven months, from October 25, 1996 until October 1, 1997, I
ran a play-by-email INWO game. I maintained all the decks and power
structures, and I roledl the dice; furthermore, whenever players
conspired among each other, they sent me Cc's of their messages.
The object of running this game for me was to generate a complete
transcript of an INWO game, for three purposes:
- To be a teaching tool for new players to learn the rules of INWO,
since there are some players who learn better by example than from the
rules.
- To be an example of strategy and of conspiracy, for the benefit
of players who know the rules, but want to learn about how people actually
tend to play.
- To be a point of discussion for players, to talk about strategy
and 'what-would-have-happened-if' discussions.
It's been a lot of fun watching this game unfold and seeing an
omniscient perspective.
I provide these pages about the game:
- A summary of the history of the game.
- The full record of the game:
- The public history of the game. (206K)
- The record of what cards each player had in his
hands. (68K)
- The record of conspiracies
among players. (527K)
- Players' comments on the game
in progress. (320K)
- Various histories of the game:
- The public state at the end of the game.
- The player's original decks:
- The player's hands and decks at the end of the game:
See also the history and
hands from the two-round
experimental game that we played before beginning this game.
