What We're Doing

OurCS: A Success!

The 2022 OurCS conference, back in person for the first time since 2019, was a great success! SCS hosted 38 attendees from all over the U.S. They participated in research teams led by 10 excellent academic and corporate mentors, and listened to talks and panels from corporate sponsors, faculty, postdocs and current graduate students. Thanks to everyone who helped make this event a success.

Graduate Application Statement of Purpose Review

The SCS Graduate Application Statement of Purpose (GASP) Review committee is ready to review statements of purpose for individuals applying to SCS doctoral programs for AY 23-24. Thank you to our 46 volunteers and our volunteer coordinators, Tzu-Shen Kuo and Daye Nam, for committing time and effort to this process.

TechNights

We are excited to announce that in person TechNights sessions have returned to SCS. TechNights offers hands-on enrichment activities for middle-school students with the goal of increasing diversity in computing. The first session “Webpage Hacking and Treasure Hunt” was held Wednesday, Oct. 26. Participants learned how easy it is to manipulate data sent over the web using an interactive app. The three remaining sessions will be held 7-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings (November 2, 8 and 15).

SCS Halloween Party!

Join us for the SCS Halloween Party from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct 31, in the Perlis Atrium in Newell-Simon Hall. There will be loads of fun, including karaoke, cookie decorating, exciting prizes, pizza and other spooky activities! All are welcome to attend. Costumes are welcome, but not required. RSVP using this form.

Announcements

The UC Berkeley Labor Center invites applications for the 2022 C.L. Dellums African American Leadership School. Established in 2006, this six-week program brings together and trains young emerging leaders to strengthen the connection between the Black community and the labor movement, and to promote the interests of Black workers within their unions and communities. Find out more and apply on the program's website.
