A clear understanding should be reached before the beginning of the work regarding the respective rights of ownership when an engineer or manufacturer and a customer may jointly work out designs and plans or develop inventions.

Code is relevant when:
Engineer has a client
AND
Engineer and the client work jointly on designs, plans, or inventions
Code is violated when:
Engineer does not reach a clear understanding with the client before the beginning of work regarding respective ownership of the designs, plans, or inventions.
Code is not violated when:
Engineer reaches a clear understanding with the client before the beginning of work regarding respective ownership of the designs, plans, or inventions.
