Modeling Motion Using Motion Graphs

Molina Tanco, L. and Hilton, A., 2000. Realistic synthesis of novel human movements from a database of motion capture examples. In Proceedings of the Workshop on Human Motion, 137-142 (5 pages)

Kovar, L., Gleicher, M., and Pighin, F. 2002. Motion Graphs. In Proceedings of SIGGRAPH 2002 (9 pages)

Lee, J., Chai, J., Reitsma, P., Hodgins, J., Pollard, N. 2002. Interactive Control of Avatars Animated with Human Motion Data, ACM Transactions on Graphics (SIGGRAPH 2002), volume 21, number 3, 491-500, July 2002. (9 pages)

The Molina Tanco paper is cited as being the first paper to use the motion graph approach to syntesizing motion, it also uses a statistical technique that might fit well with the modeling theme of the course. The Kovar paper is regularly cited and provides a simple but complete approach. The Lee paper gets into more details about efficient construction and search and has some nifty applications.
