Autonomous Miniature Robots Built by Carnegie Mellon Students Will Race for Cash Prizes Totaling More Than $2100

EVENT: More than 10 teams of Carnegie Mellon University students will compete for some $2,100 in prizes as they race autonomous, self-powered miniature robots they've designed and built on a torturous, curving 255-foot-long course in the 16th Annual School of Computer Science Mobot Races: Mobot Slalom. First prize of $1000 will be awarded to the top finishing undergraduate team. Second prize is $500. Third and open class prizes are $250. A $100 Judge's Choice prize will be awarded to the most unique robot, and an extra $250 is available for any robot that beats the course record time standing on the books.

Our wonderful event sponsors, who have been with us since the beginning of the races, include Lockheed Martin and Eaton Corporation, and Google. And for three years...a unique sponsorship...MISUMI USA who offers $100 of Free Factory Automation Components for all Mobot Teams.

Our thunderous applause for this great support from these great sponsors! We couldn't do this without them....

WHEN: Noon, Friday, 16 April 2010, regardless of weather conditions.
WHERE: Paved walkway beside Wean Hall, fifth floor level, Carnegie Mellon campus.

This competition will provide a sense of how pervasive robotics is in the Carnegie Mellon culture. It also demonstrates the power of individuals and interdisciplinary teams to create meaningful and innovative autonomous vehicles.
